The USA and Afghanistan
Martin Fletcher explores the Grand Canyon - and controversy over plans to 'develop' it; Meena Baktash gets a peek into the presidential rose garden in Kabul
The stunning landscape of the Grand Canyon impresses anyone who visits it - but how far can, or should, it be developed to accommodate tourism? Martin Fletcher's been rafting down the Colorado River, and hearing of the controversy over plans to build a cable car and associated facilities in one of America's most renowned sites of natural beauty. Some argue that they could bring jobs and commerce to a needy community, but others are appalled by the idea of changing a place like this. And the 91热爆's Afghan editor, Meena Baktash, gives us a peek behind the scenes in Kabul: a special visit to the rose gardens of its presidential palace complex, and unusually personal insight into the family life of outgoing President Hamid Karzai.
