Hear the pygmy music that was sent into space

The anthropologist Colin Turnbull lived with, was infatuated with, and recorded music of the Mbuti pygmy tribe. He believed it contained the essence of truth – ‘that it is a good world, it is their father, it is their mother, their lover.’ The recordings were sent into space on the Voyager space craft and inspired artists such as Bigatti, Madonna and Herbie Hancock to incorporate them into their own music.
