The Glasgow Girls: Amal Azzudin
They were a group of schoolgirls whose campaign to save their friend from deportation inspired a movement. It also contributed to changes in immigration practices in Scotland.
The story of the Glasgow Girls recently broadcast on 91Èȱ¬ Three as part of the 91Èȱ¬â€™s Commonwealth Games programming. Amal Azzudin, one of the original campaigners, was just 11 when her family fled the civil war in Somalia and came to the UK. Today she works for the Mental Health Foundation with refugee women, and is studying a Masters in Human Rights and Politics. In this extract she speaks to 91Èȱ¬â€™s Ruchi Tandon….
