Vine in 1914: Great Britain Goes To War With Germany
On 4 August 1914, Great Britain declared war on Germany.
Britain had been reluctant to get drawn into what had been called ‘a Balkans quarrel’, and only days before the declaration, peace protests were being held in London.
By announcing the declaration, Britain committed itself to taking part in the world’s first industrialised ‘total’ war, which lasted for more than four years, and was one of the deadliest conflicts in history.
