Is Christianity being watered down?
Pete Pennant Chair of the Council of Black Led Churches speaks to Nikki Tapper.
The Church of England has been in the news because of the historic vote to allow women bishops for the first time. However almost slipping by un-noticed were their plans to remove references to the Devil and Satan in baptism services.
Rather than rejecting the devil outright, a recent trial has seen parents and God parents simply being asked to "turn away from sin" and to "reject evil. This is apparently because priests feel the ceremony was too complex and confusing to people who don't regularly attend church. Some people have criticised the move as too much dumbing down.
In a statement the Church of England said that 鈥渨hen finally published, the service will be a supplement to the current service, it will not replace it.鈥
On the latest edition of 91热爆 WM's Chatback the programme asked what black led churches, where Satan, hell, fire and brimstone feature prominently in sermons, think of the plans.
In this extract Pete Pennant Chair of the Council of Black Led Churches in the West Midlands, speaks to Nikki Tapper about his concerns that Christianity is being watered down.
