Leicester brings in Carnival charges

It's the highlight of the year for many party people in Leicester. The city's Caribbean carnival is one of the oldest in the country and draws thousands of people into town to see the costumes, dance to the music and generally let their hair down.

However after years of struggling with funding and sponsorship, this year the organisers have had to make a tough decision, to charge people to get in.

It's partly because Leicester City Council has been reducing the amount of funding it gives the carnival each year, so from getting around 100 thousand pounds 2 years ago, it's now down to 60-thousand this year.

It's all a part of the council's Festival's Review but still represents the single largest amount of money the council gives to any one-day city event.

In this report 91热爆 Radio Leicester鈥檚 Jo Hollis has been finding out whether people are willing to cough up their cash for the Carnival.
