Kyrgios' childhood coach: 'Never thought' he'd make it

19-year-old Nick Kyrgios, ranked 144, has stunned the tennis world by knocking the world number one Raphael Nadal out of Wimbledon.

But the man who coached him from the age of 4 to 14 says he "never thought" he'd be the next big thing in tennis.

Andrew Bulley, now the head coach of Canberra Tennis Academy, worked with Nick Kyrgios as he grew up as a youngster in Canberra. He told Phil Williams that "you have hopes and dreams for these children, but there are so many things that can happen along the way." But he added that Nick "now seems to have the game to push through and make a mark on the senior tour.鈥

Mr Bulley said that his victory was "amazing" and he was 鈥渏ust so proud鈥 of the 19-year-old knocking out the World Number One Rafael Nadal. He said Nick Kyrgios's victory was 鈥渁bsolutely massive for tennis in Australia鈥.
