Official figures suggest the Chinese economy to powering ahead, but is that the case? We look behind the official figures to examine the direction of the country's economy. Sandy Chim is one of those in the optimistic camp. He is the Chinese-born director and CEO of Century Iron Mines Corporation, which has opened a series of open cast iron-ore mines in Canada. His produce is directly tailored to feed Chinese demand, and despite the concerns he is expecting a lot more demand in the future.

According to BP's latest global energy report, growth in Chinese energy consumption increased by less than 5%, last year. Christof Ruhl, chief economist at BP, tells us that lower energy growth normally indicates lower growth as a whole. Andrew Halper is a lawyer with the firm Olswang and a former Canadian diplomat. He has lived and worked in China for many years. He says that some of the conditions which gave rise to China's buoyant economic growth are now over and that the readjustment it faces is enormous and daunting.
