Rwanda 20 years on
20 years ago on April 6th 1994, Rwanda plunged into war and genocide. A plane carrying the Rwandan president, a member of the majority Hutu population, was shot down. Everyone on board was killed. Within hours Hutu extremists seized power and a murder spree began. 800,000 people were killed in 100 days.
Venuste Nshimiyimana found himself sheltering in a school along with 2,000 fellow Rwandans. He was among the more fortunate ones who escaped and today he works as a 91热爆 Africa reporter.
This extract from a moving interview by Radio WM鈥檚 Liz Munro, begins with Venuste explaining that the fact he survived is something which, even today, has left him with feelings of guilt as he seeks justice for those who died...
