Joey Barton says Wayne Rooney could have been world class but questions whether the Manchester United and England forward "lives his life correctly".

"Our players aren't world class", the QPR midfielder said when looking at England's World Cup chances.

"Rooney could have been world class, but when you look at Rooney, look at his mentality compared to Cristiano Ronaldo - they're polar opposites."

"When you see Wayne Rooney smoking cigarettes, does he live his life correctly?"

Barton was speaking to Sir Clive Woodward in a 5 live programme Sir Clive Woodward Meets to be broadcast at 7.30pm on Thursday 3 April.
