Should the school day be extended?
The Department of Education says it wants more schools to extend their opening hours. Number 10鈥檚 former policy advisor Paul Kirby, who has now left Downing Street, wrote a blog suggesting children and working parents would benefit from 45-hours in school a week for 45 weeks of the year.
Conservative sources say they have not considered this specific proposal but are encouraging schools to operate longer days and terms stating many academies and free schools already offer extended opening hours.
