Seb Coe pays tribute to Sir Christopher Chataway

Sir Christopher Chataway has died at the age of 82. He was a 5,000 metre world record holder, the first ever 91热爆 Sports Personality of the year, and the pacemaker on the race when Sir Roger bannister ran the first ever four minute mile.

Sebastian Coe said Sir Christopher was 鈥渆xcruciatingly funny鈥 and credits his as being "absolutely essential in saving British athletics during the 1990s, when it went into receivership.

Lord Coe paid tribute to his athletic achievements:

"Although his international career was actually relatively short, it was about five years, he packed a massive amount in; he was four times world record holder, he obviously inspired Roger to the first four minutes [mile], he made two Olympic finals and won a Commonwealth title over three miles in Vancouver; and he did this all on four training sessions a week, so he clearly, rather like Roger, had bags of natural talent."
