'Ashamed' to ask family for money to make ends meet

Single dad Dan, who was made redundant six years ago, said it was 鈥渋ncredibly embarrassing" to move back into his parents' house at the age of 30, in order to save to buy a house.

David borrowed 拢600 from his son as he was 鈥渄esperate" and had sold many possessions, including his wedding ring. He told Victoria he felt ashamed to accept the money.

Katherine said she regularly asks her parents and sisters for money "to keep a roof over my children鈥檚 heads". She said "people assume that because I work I should be able to afford it".

Andrew, his wife and their two children are homeless, living in 鈥渁 broken down caravan in a field鈥. He said 鈥渆very day is a bit of a battle to say, can we eat?鈥. Andrew said he and his wife try to protect their children: 鈥淲e try to hide from them just how desperate it is鈥.
