Kegworth - 25 years on: Firefighter Dave Astle's story
25 years since the Kegworth Air Disaster.
Forty seven people died on board the British Midland 737 when it crash landed into the M1 motorway on the edge of the village of Kegworth in north Leicestershire.
Another 74 people were gravely injured.
It was a tragedy which was to radically alter air travel. It led to a number of key improvements to passenger safety which we still benefit from today.
Sunday night, 8th of January 1989, scores of people were involved in the desperate bid to rescue those trapped inside the plane's mangled wreckage.
Among them was Dave Astle who was a part-time firefighter from Derbyshire
