Kegworth - 25 years on: Dominica's story

As the plane started to get into difficulty, Dominica drew on her psychotherapy training to calm those around her.

Flowers will be laid on a memorial site and prayers will be said in church on January 8th 2014 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Kegworth air disaster which claimed 47 lives.

Here on 91热爆 Radio Leicester we're remembering the dramatic events of that fateful night when a Belfast-bound British Midland Boeing 737 suffered engine failure and crashed into an embankment of the M1 motorway just north of Kegworth.

As well as the 47 deaths, the crash resulted in 74 serious injuries. However, it was also an emergency which saw scores of villagers and motorists heroically join in the scramble to rescue those trapped in the wreckage.

And it's their stories and those of the survivors which we shall be telling and culminating in a special programme on Jim Davis's programme.

Let's hear now from Dominca McGowan.

Back in January 1989 she was a 37 year old mum with three young children waiting for her at home in Belfast.

She'd been in London on a psychotherapy course. And, as the plane started to get into difficulty, she drew on her training to calm those around her....
