Wrestler on concussion in sport: No sports with head trauma before 14
Former professional wrestler Chris Nowinski wrote Head Games: Football's Concussion Crisis, which examined the long-term effects of head trauma among athletes. He has become a global authority on concussion and head injuries in sport.
He told Nicky Campbell “we probably would not have created, knowing what we know today, sports where a child is getting hit in the head repetitively hundreds of times before probably at least high school.
"We know that the brain is much more fragile when they’re young and we know that the damage can be much longer lasting and change their development and they never become the person they were supposed to; so my concuss doctor, who treated me, said no sport should have repetitive brain trauma and tolerate it before high school – 14 – and that’s something I agree with."
