An exploration into the relationship between Christopher Boone and his Dad, Ed Boone, from 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time', through interviews with the actors and footage from the National Theatre production. The footage shows the actor Paul Ritter in the role of Ed, in the premiere production. The cast interviews feature actor Sean Gleeson who played Ed in the Apollo Theatre version of the play. Sean Gleeson explains the relationship between Christopher and Ed. We see footage from the play which shows the tense and strained relationship.
Sean Gleeson explains that Ed doesn鈥檛 understand Christopher. We see Ed hit Christopher, showing his volatile nature. We see what happens when Christopher finds out that his Mother is not dead, and he finds her letters. This is a crucial change in the relationship between Christopher and his Dad. We gain an insight into Ed as a frustrated, angry and wounded man through the interview with the actor, Sean Gleeson. Playwright Simon Stephens explains how it was important not to show Ed as a bad man. We see the change in Ed at the end of the story, when he tries to re-gain Christopher鈥檚 trust. This is shown through footage of the play.
