Pharmacists in Northamptonshire are keen to take on a wider role to take pressure off other parts of the NHS.
A report from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society suggests pharmacists should be encouraged to treat common illnesses offer vaccinations and support long-term health conditions.
Reporter Tom Percival asks people in Northampton if they would consult a chemist if they feel ill rather than their doctor. Stuart talks to Cathy Picton, co-author of the report, to Mukesh Lad, chair of the local Pharmaceutical Committee, to Councillor Robin Brown, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing at Northamptonshire County Council, and to Dr Jamie Green, a GP at the Delapre Medical Centre in Northampton.
