The quarantine of Sumatran Orangutans

Former Jersey ape keeper Dr Ian Singleton has dedicated his life's work to saving the critically endangered Sumatran Orangutan and now runs Sumatra's only rehabilitation programme for the great ape.

They are rescued from the illegal pet trade and from forests being destroyed to make way for industry - they end up first being treated by Dr Singleton's team, before being put back into the wild, although some don't make it.

This Spring the current Jersey orangutan keeper, Gordon Hunt, went to Sumatra to get updated on his work.

This is the two men meeting and talking about the stories from the quarantine - which is where rescued orangutans first arrive, before they're made ready to be released into the wild if they're lucky enough.
