History of the Welsh flag
Why is there a dragon on the Welsh flag? Eddie Butler explores the myths and discovers that it was originally brought to Wales by the Roman cohorts who used it to scare opposing troops. The Roman legionary carried standards known as 'draco' or dragon into battle (Ddraig in Welsh). It was very quickly adopted by the Welsh of the time, though the flag itself in its modern form was only officially accepted as the Welsh flag in 1959.
