Anglo-Irish Agreement
The agreement signed by the British and Irish governments at Hillsborough Castle means that, for the first time, the Irish government will have a say in the affairs of Northern Ireland. Regular conferences between the two governments to boost co-operation in legal and security matters are envisaged, but there will be no change in Northern Ireland's position within the UK unless there is majority consent.
