Pullman's inspiring teacher
Pullman’s English teacher, Enid Jones, had a real influence on his developing writing. She tells how she used to read out his essays to the class because ‘he was writing well, then’. Pullman describes why he owes Miss Jones ‘an enormous amount’ and the lasting impression on him of reading one particular poem out loud in class.
