NHS Doctors must prove their English is proficient
Doctors from overseas who want to work in the NHS in England will soon have to prove they can speak proficient English. From April, they'll have to show they can communicate well enough to treat patients in what's being described as a safe and competent way.
The Health Minister Dan Poulter says foreign doctors can make an invaluable contribution to the NHS but basic checks and balances need to be put in place to ensure patient safety.
