Mo McLeod

Mo McLeod is one of the people behind the Howsham Mill restoration project in York. She talks to Russell about the last ten years working to restore the forgotten ruin.

In 2003 Howsham Mill was a ruin, lost and forgotten amongst undergrowth on an island in the River Derwent until Mo MacLeod and her husband, David, bought the mill and began fundraising after forming the Renewable Heritage Trust.

Instead of producing corn, which it did for much of its 190-years, the building, a finalist in the 91热爆 Restoration Village programme, now generates enough electricity for a small number of houses in the area.

The Trust was then rewarded for their years of dedication a couple of years ago when it was were awarded a huge lottery grant of over 拢600,000 to renovate the exterior of the mill and to transform the building into a classroom and meeting place with exhibitions.
