Llanberis walk - Up through the woods
Derek and walk guide Rhys Mwyn wind their way up through the beautiful sessile oak woodland of the Padarn Country Park. These trees are stunted oaks that grow in thin soil and contribute to this being designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Sessile oaks used to grow on many of the lower slopes of the mountains of Snowdonia until sheep farming came along. Now only small pockets grow here and there in areas that were difficult to cultivate as pasture.
