After the Ice

First transmitted in 1986. Britain was once covered in ice, with glaciers over a mile deep and ice caps as far south as London. From an eagle's eye view, this programme investigates how ice shaped the British landscape, and how forests evolved and ancient lakes remained after the ice retreated.

Did You Know?

Britain's only reindeer can be found in the mountains of the Cairngorms. They were reintroduced into Scotland in 1952 after becoming extinct 8,000 years before. The man responsible for this was Swedish reindeer herder Mikel Utsi, who felt the environment of the Highlands was similar to that of Lapland.
