The Battle of Britain
Tony Pollard and Neil Oliver bring to life something of the atmosphere and daily bustle of an airbase at the height of the Battle of Britain. (2004)
Tony Pollard and Neil Oliver bring to life something of the atmosphere and daily bustle of an airbase at the height of the Battle of Britain as they uncover long-lost Tet turrets, dig up forgotten anti-aircraft settings and reveal the shape of an E pen, which would have housed Spitfires. They speak to people who worked at the airbase during World War II, sit in a Spitfire that actually flew from Hornchurch and try on pilots' uniforms as a military historian talks them through what an encounter with a Messerschmitt 109 would have been like. (2004)
