Merthyr Uprising
Eddie Butler describes the week long revolt in Merthyr Tydfil in 1831, an event that has since become known as Merthyr Rising. This rebellion with its background in the social conditions faced by workers in Merthyr at the time was the first time in British history that the red flag was raised and eventually led to the hanging of martyr Dic Penderyn ( Richard Lewis) for supposedly injuring a soldier.
