Bill Neely on the Droppin' Well bombing
Bill Neely recalls his experience of the Droppin' Well bombing in December 1982, when he was a young radio reporter on the 91Èȱ¬'s Good Morning Ulster. He admits to the "dirty little secret" of journalism – the excitement of being sent to report on a big story such as this.
That excitement was tempered when he arrived in Ballykelly and witnessed the scene of devastation caused by the bomb. In the wake of the funerals in the following days, Neely tells how he returned to his hotel room and began "sobbing like a baby".
