The Army off-duty in Northern Ireland

Eleven soldiers were killed in the bombing of the Droppin' Well pub by the INLA. It was a place they thought was safe from terrorist attack. There are 10,000 regular soldiers of the British Army on duty in Northern Ireland.

James Robbins looks at how the Army tries to protect its men while they鈥檙e off-duty. It is a delicate balance between enabling soldiers to live as normal a life as possible and an awareness of security threats, as Sergeant Barry Riley of the 1st Chesire Regiment (who lost eight men in the bombing) explains.
