Guernica and Franco's victory
The British government did not want the Spanish Civil War to escalate into a Europe-wide conflict and so signed up to the non-intervention committee. The German Luftwaffe's bombing of Guernica acted as an example of the military strategy that would be used in World War II. The decision led to the resignation of Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden.
