Industry in Dundee (pt 2/2)
Dundee has become a centre for computer game production. In the 1980s, the computer gaming company DMA was set up. From its initial success with 'Lemmings' the company grew to become a major global player with 'Grand Theft Auto'. Although the company has since split, it has led to Dundee growing as a centre of software and games development. Off the back of this the University of Abertay became the first university in the world to offer courses in computer gaming design. This helps to ensure the city maintains a skilled pool of industry workers. Realtime Worlds has chosen to house its gaming company in a disused jute mill, linking it to the city's traditional industrial heritage. Update- Realtime Worlds games company went into administration on Aug 17 2010. http-//www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-11003456.
