Growth of Scottish cities
Some Scottish Lowlanders moved to cities around Britain in the 19th and early 20th century. Although living conditions were poor, there were greater employment prospects as well as social benefits. Having made this move from home, the upheaval of moving further afield did not seem so daunting.
