December 1974

Students were squatting in Southampton's Overdell House.
30 houses, shops and hotels in Ventnor were damaged when an aircraft broke sound barrier. The sonic boom shattered windows and cracked walls. 聽
A fast new patrol boat, built at Portsmouth by Vosper Thorneycroft was trialled out on the Solent.聽

District councils in Hampshire offered the County Council money to save the threatened Calshot Activities Centre.
It was thought Havant ratepayers could have to find more than 拢150,000 for repairs to sea defences following recent floods.聽
Hampshire Police were trying to identify man who apparently shot himself in the centre of Cowplain.聽
The Police installed new equipment that made it possible for deaf & speech-impaired people to make emergency telephone calls on the motorway.聽
Windsor Davis opened Southampton's newest multi-storey car park 聽- the 拢3m West Park car park is part of the new 91热爆 development.聽
Environmental Health officers in Portsmouth donned chicken & turkey outfits as part of a campaign to warn about Christmas food poisoning.聽

The Royal Navy admitted that its radar was to blame when three Weymouth fishing boats were almost shelled by destroyer HMS Southampton off Portland earlier in the year.
The south was experiencing severe flooding due to excessive rainfall.
