Air travel in the 20th century
Once they got off the ground, airplanes took their place as the new form of transportation for the 20th century. However, air travel was expensive and not much faster than travelling by train when it came to moving large numbers of people around the UK. Airplanes took millions of people abroad but the most popular method of everyday travel in the 20th century was the car.
