Is dementia still taboo?

The latest World Alzheimer Report is released today and according to Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI), nearly one in four people with dementia hide or conceal their diagnosis citing stigma as the main reason.

40% of people with dementia report not being included in everyday life. What is startling is that nearly two out of three people with dementia and their carers believe there is a lack of understanding of dementia in their countries.

The report provides 10 recommendations to enable Governments and societies to overcome stigma, including greater public education, with nearly half of the survey respondents indicating education and awareness as a huge priority. Another key point is to encourage people with dementia to share their experiences and to ensure that they are included in everyday activities.

We ask the author of report Nicole Batsch if this shows dementia is still taboo.

Also, the original Ford Cortina was launched 50 years ago today - on September 21, 1962. It cost from 拢573. It is seen as Britian's most popular car ever.
