Anger over budget cuts for elderly in Kent
John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.
Cuts to care for the elderly in Kent are unfair, and labels them second class citizens. This is the reaction from one care home owner to more than 拢18m of savings in Kent's adult social care budget. The service is one of the hardest hit in the County Council's budget for the coming year.
Millions of pounds is also going to be cut from services for looked after children, but Kent County Council is pledging that the quality of services won't be hit - and it's pledged to freeze council tax for a third successive year (06:07, 07:07 and 08:07).
A campaign has been launched in Kent to make squatting in commercial buildings a criminal offence. It is already illegal for squatters to occupy residential properties. Since the start of the month, anyone found in an empty home risks up to six months in prison.
However, that is no comfort to people in Blue Bell Hill near Chatham, who say a change in the law is needed to remove squatters from a boarded up pub in their village (06:22, 07:22 and 08:22).
The leader of Kent County Council Paul Carter is with us in the Hotseat (08:39).
