The impact of North Sea oil on the UK coastline and economy

The discovery of North Sea oil has had a profound effect on the coastline and economy of the UK. The Forties pipeline was constructed to bring North Sea oil from more than fifty platforms onshore. Remaining reserves are more difficult to extract so companies have to find more sophisticated methods of exploiting the oil which is left. As North Sea oil production begins to decline, Britain will become a net importer of oil.
