The problem of measuring coastlines
Marcus du Sautoy continues his exploration of the problem of measurement with Alan Davies. Marcus explains how difficult it is to measure the length of a coastline. This leads on to an introduction to fractal geometry, with an example of one drawn in the sand and ends with the idea that Alan's piece of string could actually be infinite in length.
