Recording data on global population at the UN
Sir David Attenborough discusses global population growth, which is increasing by 200,000 people per day. When he was born there were 2 billion people alive; now there are 7 billion. The data collection centre at the UN is shown, and projections of population change are explored. Around 2 billion more people are destined to be added in the next 50 years. Prof Tim Dyson explains that this growth has been almost all since 1800, and is due to lower death rates through better disease control.
