Robert Bakewell’s ‘Birdcage’
Simon Grant Jones makes a blacksmith’s pilgrimage to the grounds of Melbourne Hall in Derbyshire, to admire the techniques and artistry of Robert Bakewell’s celebrated ‘Birdcage’. This 18th century blacksmith’s garden arbour is one of the finest examples of decorative wrought iron from the golden age of British blacksmithing.
