Funeral of Bloody Sunday victims
This unvoiced report captures the atmosphere outside the solemn requiem mass at St Mary's Church in the Creggan area of Londonderry for 11 of the 13 civil rights demonstrators killed by soldiers of the 1st Parachute Regiment on Bloody Sunday, 30 January 1972.
Coffins of the victims are carried out of the church, accompanied by grief-stricken relatives, where a huge crowd of mourners and reporters await. People stand on the roof of a nearby building in order to see what is going on. Black flags are flown from houses. We then see Cardinal Conway walking beside Fr Anthony Mulvey and behind them Bishop McFeely and Bishop Farren. The report ends with the coffin of Michael McDaid being carried out of the church grounds with the sound of the choir in the background.
The voiceover track from this archive material is missing. Only actuality sound remains.
