Video: Dinosaurs at Large! garden, Chester Zoo
Designer Mark Sparrow has loved dinosaurs since an early age and when Chester Zoo said they wanted one at the heart of their garden at Tatton Park, he was thrilled.
The dinosaur has been integral to the design and the planting from the off. As a result Mark has used species which were around when the dinosaurs walked the Earth; species from over 65 million years ago such as the Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) and early flowering species like Magnolias and the Tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipifera).
Hoping for a Gold medal at Tatton, which has been illusive so far, Mark has used a magnificent specimen Monkey Puzzle (Araucaria araucana) and a grand waterfall. The Monkey Puzzle will create height and structure and the waterfall will be used to create sound but also the perfect habitat for ferns lived on this planet even before the dinosaurs.
