Bedford Hospital says work is under way to improve care of the elderly after criticism from the Care Quality Commission. But the hospital says the commission report may not present a true picture.
The inspection focused on whether people are treated with dignity and respect, and whether they get food and drink meeting their needs.
Two of the hospital's 20 wards were visited in April, with improvements needed in nutrition.
In a statement, the hospital says it accepts the need to improve, but points out the inspection team spoke to only 13 patients, six members of staff and two relatives.
