Hanssen has called an emergency MDT meeting with the top surgeons at Holby about Ric's current state of health, only he hasn't mentioned this to Ric. Ric comes into the meeting and is furious with Hanssen; how dare he even discuss his tumour without his permission. Deep down Ric is scared that he won't get to see his new grandchild who's due to be born very soon, so is adamant that he won't have the risky operation today. Hanssen in confident he'll save Ric's life and passionately tries to talk Ric into having the operation for fear of time running out and says "ask not for whom the bell tolls Mr. Griffin" to which Ric replies "It's who's doing the tolling that bothers me…".
