Hope has been abandoned early by her mother Lily. Against the odds, she has survived on her own in the woods, but she should be with her mother for another year and will have to survive hibernation on her own. Gordon鈥檚 aim is to gain her trust so he can attach a specially made collar to her. Researchers will then be able to find Hope in Minnesota's vast forests and supplement her diet whilst keeping her in the wild and out of captivity.
