The attendants have been told two thirds could lose their jobs next year, and all of them gone by 2012. Simon Leaderman spoke to Ellen Booth, the campaigns officer for the road safety charity Brake.

Our reporter Simon Watts went to meet a lollipop lady from Bedfordshire who says the news has come as a shock.

A final decision will be made in early November.
