Germany are one of the 'Big Five' countries who automatically qualify for the Eurovision final. This is because they are one of the biggest financial contributors to the contest.

It meant that Germany immediately qualified for the final held at the Telenor Arena in Oslo, Norway.

It was the fifty-fourth time Germany competed in the final having first entered in 1956.
