The Poor Law
The introduction of the Poor Law made landlords responsible for their tenants. Some, such as MacLeod of Dunvegan, Skye, spent huge sums of money to feed their tenants. Many others did not and thousands of people were forced off their land by landlords unwilling to pay for their keep. Video: A history of Scotland: This Land is Our Land.
