Monkey business

Hanuman langurs are sacred in India, but Kipling wrote of them as quarrelsome and there is some truth to that. They have complex lives and babies have to learn all the rules. There is a strict hierarchy within a troop. A dominant monkey sees off a subordinate. Some troops consist of a female and one resident male, others are all male groups. When troops meet the langurs bicker and threaten each other. In peaceful periods the babies play together.
